A nice shot of the skyline during the recent snow on the Cardiff Reddit board.

Very Nice!

Superb overview of the skyline here, with pretty much every mid- and high-rise building in the City Centre and Bay in view. My main takeaway is that, despite it now being only the fifth tallest structure in Cardiff, Capital Tower is still the highlight and most dominant building. A truly great example of '60s architecture.

That's a great photo! and the full resolution one is 11thousand pixels wide so superb detail!!
This picture shows that we are slowly getting a respectable skyline (certainly by uk standards). But add the buildings that are hopefully on their way, to this one and  :o lets hope they come off! :)

That's the best image of the Cardiff skyline that I've seen.

I've always thought the Admiral building was a missed opportunity to create a landmark building. They've already outgrown that building based on their current recruitment drive. I guess budgets come into it, but I'd like to think they could have gone higher. If something ever gets built on the Rapports site and / or Motorpoint arena then the Admiral HQ would become almost totally obscured from certain angles.

The Capital Tower is still a standout building. I always wished it had a companion, and could have been a smaller scale twin towers complex.

A few gaps in the skyline, but I'd be confident of at least another half dozen new towers coming along of around 75meters plus.

A splendid image which reminds us that a manmade landscape can be as beautiful as a natural one. And how lucky we are to have Bute Park and the Castle right in our city centre. Very few UK cities can boast a large and mostly intact castle at their heart (the only other that leaps to mind is Edinburgh).

We are lucky in Cardiff but York, Newcastle and Nottingham all have substantial castles in their central areas, and London has the Tower of London.

I don't want to quible but York Castle isn't really castle even though its called that. It's an assortment of buildings from various periods surrounding a Norman Motte (Clifford's Tower). It's more the name of a part of the city than an actual castle.

If you don't want to quibble then why quibble? Cardiff castle is - to quote you - "an assortment of buildings from various periods surrounding a Norman Motte". York has the most impressive fortifications of any city in the UK, excepting perhaps Chester (which also has a castle).

Having lived in Yorkshire for 15 years I know it well and it is a large, well-preserved castle in the centre of a city. Not as extensive as Cardiff castle but the perimeter walls of our castle are, as you know, largely late 19th Century.

Sure York has very extensive and impressive city walls but that's not the same thing as a castle.

It was only a throwaway comment anyway. I don't get why you're so agitated.

You challenged me. You are the agitator.
