Currently Butetown is one of a handful of a single-member wards in the city because of the unique history and demographicsof the community there. This development would add circa 5,000 electors, enough to justify a second seat but also diluting the influence of the original community.

It will be interesting to see whether they redraw the boundaries to create a more compact but still highy ethnically diverse division or just add an extra seat on the current boundaries.

I'm neutral but I can see there are pros and cons to both courses of action.

Next election there will be two councillors. Atlantic Wharf comes under Butetown and the residents there have been lobbying for ages for a councillor. They don't feel the current one is the least bit interested in them.

The development itself looks OK, nothing that exciting but my eyes aren't burning.
The big plus, to me, is the chance of a decent cycle river crossing. I dislike the two southern most ones.

Looking through the planning app for this and it shows the three tallest buildings at close to 90m at the southern edge of the site and gradually reducing in height as you get closer to the city.
Is it just me that thinks it should be the other way around?

It's 206 Build to rent apartments, they seem to be working on the tallest block first - 12 floors other blocks are 8...

I'm a fan of this one. Simple, high density, (hopefully) high quality.

Does anyone know what the tower going up at the bottom end of Trade Street is? Is it part of this development or something else entirely?

I think you are referring to this one?

https://planningonline.cardiff.gov.uk/o ... APR_120652

It's a development of a 25 storey building with 140 apartments.

That's the one! I have to say this one had passed me by. It says something that medium size towers have become par for the course in recent years. There was a time where we'd all have got very excited about something like this!

That's a very good point Ash - mind you in fairness I'm excited!
The one that I'm really looking forward to getting underway is at Crawshaw court, about 150 metres away. I wander past quite regularly and there's no sign of any activity, but these things always seem to take forever  so I'm hopeful one day in the not too distant it'll be a hive of activity and we'll see the start of this 85metre development getting underway.
