Looks like it is staying on existing line - with LG Ave staying as one the most boring and pointless roads in Cardiff.

But on the plus side there will be a short extension from existing terminus down to Pierhead, and with new stops at Loudon Square and Herbert Street.

I can not tell if Bay line will continue to Porth Teigr or whether that will only be the Dumballs Road line.

But at least the BBC workers will have a choice of travel between Central HQ and Porth Teigr studios....they can either take the Dumballs Road tram....or they can take a private taxpayer funded limousine...i wondervwgat they will do?


Don't be daft, they'll cycle to the Porth Teigr studios.

I can't agree more with Lloyd George Avenue, living literally nearby it's a massive waste. I'm also surprised it doesn't extend down to the sports village, surely that's more beneficial than extending the line briefly around the WMC and Senedd?

The sports village is the wrong side of the Taff to connect to the Bay (without building an expensive bridge). But in any case there is a spur to ISV planned off the Penarth line.
Build it and they will come.
Get it wrong and they will fall off.

They could have used the old freight line that existed to the old wharfs etc. where the ISV is but alas that has already been built over along most of its route.

That is effectively what is planned.. following the line of Ferry Road from Sports Village, and joining up with tram line along Penarth Road near Grangetown Station.

Not using the old freight line directly, but running closely parallel to it

I have been looking through the plans in detail and we will lose a lot of East West connectivity throuh Cardiff Central - Barry lines will no longer travel through to Pontypridd, and Penarth lines will no longer connect to Queen Street.

The worst connection will be the City Line which will initially be a HR shuttle from Radyr to CC but with no onward connection to Queen Street and no possibility of Pontypridd trains using this route as at present.

There are longer term plans to convert this line to LR and connect to Creigiau and beyond, but this will leave the existing tracks near Canton Depot and run along Cowbridge Road and St Mary St increasing journey times from Ninian Park to Central significantly.

The problem is that the Barry line will continue to be HR and this cuts off City Line before Central preventing a through LR service. Instead of street running from Canton, I would have thought a grade separated junction - putting Barry line into an underpass under City Line - or City Line on a flyover - would be a better option increasing the viability of NW Corridor.

There are now Master Plans and lots of construction detail for the Taffs Well depot now published on TfW website.

I am starting to feel very optimistic about this project now!

Edit: well I was optimistic until I read in the construction strategy that depot is due to open in Q4 2021. ...that means we are a long way from a working Metro....

Whats the betting that carwyn jones will announce that the assembly will run the metro after everyone else drops out
another nail in the coffin of the failed socialist experiment that we call devolution.
meanwhile the roads and motorway in south wales are in a shocking state all the road surface is breaking up and litter evrywhere
like living in a backward country it is
never mind build another 50 bars that will keep the locals happy

So a private company pulls out of a bid because another private company goes bust, and somehow it’s the Welsh Government’s fault. Oh and of course, them terrible roads. Once again I can’t understand what point you’re trying to make.
