An interesting interview of James Price (TFW CEO) at Taffs Well depot by "Green Signals".

I doubt it will end up getting enough funding but this sounds like an interesting piece of work: https://western-gateway.co.uk/news-and- ... n-cardiff/

TfW have added some CGIs of the planned upgrade works at Cardiff Central.

The southern entrance is a bit of a surprise, I actually quite like it. The rest of the works are quite disappointing compared to the previous suggestions of an over track concourse and access bridge and the large glazed extensions to the front.

See what you think.

Yeah I quite like the south entrance too, but agree the rest is a disappointment. I couldn't actually see what has changed in the other renders other than a bit of re-decorating... A far cry indeed from the original renders. I guess £140 m doesn't buy much these days :-( Hoping they have fully extended platform 0 and integrated it into the station fully in these proposals.

Yeah a bit disappointing compared to what was proposed before. I'm not really clear on how it improves capacity, unless it's just via an extended platform 0 and better access / more space on platforms?

The south side looks good - just makes you feel that the recent renovation on that side was a bit short-sighted.

The planning application for Cardiff Central has been submitted, lots of documents.

Platform 0 is referred to as Fish Jetty a fair bit, from a previous life I guess.

I think that the reason Fish Jetty (the name of the car park... which in itself refers to a much earlier use) is used instead of Platform 0 - is that there was some earlier discussion about renumbering the platforms. This would have kept this part of the development's name independent of any platform renumbering
Build it and they will come.
Get it wrong and they will fall off.

I'm not sure how any platform renumbering coud work - given the large (and listed) tiled signage using the existing numbers. It would be a recipe for total confusion.

The platforms aren't going to be renumbered, this would involve re-signalling the whole station and this isn't planned as part of the redevelopment.

The point about the heritage tiling would also be a factor.
