*Could* be opening. When? And that article doesnt even mention any of the proposed reopening of the valley stations for The Metro.

"The proposed new stations will now be subject to further scrutiny to see if they are viable". How would a station at Ely Mill or Victoria Park ever not be viable in a proper integrated transport policy anyway?

That article is from April. The Metro project has more stations in it than 3 in Cardiff anyway.
I remember reading about Metro plans to open a station in Creigiau. Another completely separate article about a station in Efail Isaf and one north of Beddau (both now not even mentioned on the current Metro plan). That was five years ago now, at least. Whole thing just seems just like all talk and no action.

It is all talk and no action, all rather poor considering the congestion problems Cardiff currently has, never mind how it will be in a couple of years time.

I'll look forward to seeing the proposals and timescales from the winning bidder for the Wales & Borders/Metro franchise, if anyone actually wants it of course.

Despite the rather predictable whinging here some of these projects are already going ahead. The new Bow Street station was approved in July after finances were made available from the UK and Welsh governments:

http://www.cambrian-news.co.uk/article.cfm?id=115571&headline=New%20%C2%A37m%20train%20station%20for%20Bow%20Street%20gets%20the%20go%2Dahead&sectionIs=news&searchyear=2017

The new station at Llanwern was funded in the Welsh Government budget last month:

http://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/news/15576426.Plans_for_new_train_station_in_Llanwern_are_welcomed/

The new station at St Mellons also looks like it's going to happen, and doubtless more of these plans will get underway if Westminster, which is theoretically still supposed to be funding the entire rail network in Wales, coughs up some dosh.

I think that your labelling of comments on the Metro as predictable whinging are way off the mark. The fact is that several years after the plans were first mooted, nothing has happened.

A couple of stations do not make a new Metro. The WG have dragged their heels, admittedly not helped by the terrible Tory transport minister, but there could be a lot more progress without Grayling's assistance.

It's spades in the ground that actually matter and we're years off anything like that.

The problem with opening any new stations is that they are subject to the glacial rate of decision making enjoyed by Network Rail and UK Treasury. You would hope that things will speed up with establishment of new Metro franchise....

I hope that in Cardiff some progress can be made on Victoria Park/Ely Mill, Newport Road/Rover Way, St Mellons, Wedal Road/Roath Park, Gabalfa, Crwys Road - all of which could be developed for relatively little cost with large potential passenger growth.

I would love to see a station at St Fagans if timetables permit.

We need some quick and easy successes before moving on to the bigger investments needed for lines to Creigiau and Cross City Trams.
Build it and they will come.
Get it wrong and they will fall off.

I have used the train recently to get down to the Cardiff city stadium direct from radyr. It is quick and easy, but on match day they only put on one carriage and it's packed! They don't even try to check tickets.

Would of thought that trains would come down from valleys and Taffs Well straight to the stadium this would be a good way to get to the game? Hopefully the metro might sort it out instead of having to change at central or radyr?

All the valleys trains come down nearby already and stop at Grangetown station on very frequent trains on the way to Barry or Penarth, I've used that often for Wales matches and walk across to the City Stadium. It's not that far really, and a change at Queen Street or Radyr (for some of the Valleys trains) isn't a big deal either.

Would a stop at Ninian Park station be better? Of course it would. The issue is the frequency of trains to Ninian Park from those stations though, plus as you mention the size of the carriages. Hopefully the metro will sort out freqency and carriage sizes.

2018 should see the "veil lifted" on the South Wales Metro..... all bids in and TfW/WG decision later this year.

Mark, when you say later this year, roughly when is a preferred bidder likely to be selected? Thanks
