The Mill/Victoria Park station has made it through to the shortlist of 4 for further consideration.

St Mellons not proceeding? I thought TFW had already approved it...

Cardiff Parkway is privately funded, so isn't subject to any Network Rail competition. I'm not sure why it was put forward as St. Mellons tbh.

Is there a difference between St Mellon’s and Cardiff Parkway? I though the Parkway idea was a private venture?

Ok - so assuming that Cardiff Parkway goes ahead, i can understand that a separate St Mellons station would not be viable. But it would then make new stations at Rumney and Rover Way more viable

I'm no expert on this, but it might be that it's a shortage of suitable train paths that rule out Rumney and Rover Way rather than a lack of demand.

If that were the case though, it's surprising the plans got as far as they did.

Ideally you'd have stops at Rumney, Trowbridge, and St Mellons (Parkway) which could be an additional extension of the 'city' line going up to Radyr. If it's going to cause too many problems for all the trains to/from Newport then fair enough but wouldn't it be easy enough to lay a bit more track?

The line from Cardiff Central to Newport is all 4-track so it should not be difficult to configure the lines to segregate main lines and stopping metro services,

It might make sense if they did something with the land south of Eastern High School.

It's good to see that there are plans to fill in some of the gaps in the rail network, especially in eastern Cardiff which is very deficient in stations. But are there any plans to make much needed improvements to existing stations? I walked past Cathays station yesterday and frankly it is a disgrace. Almost hidden at the end of an alleyway, two short platforms with plastic bus shelters. It looked like one of those remote country stations which get two trains a day. At the very least it should be provided with proper platform canopies of the length of two carriages. If we are going to have an S-bahn style of system, let us have the stations to match.
