Beyond Cardiff

PostSun Feb 10, 2019 7:09 pm

I thought I'd start a thread for developements that are outside Cardiff proper but within the Cardiff city region.

This one from Zip World is a biggie. Their sites in north Wales are incredibly popular and their plans for the Rhigos mountain site sounds just as good.

The great advantage the site has is that it's just outside the Beacons National Park so planning should be pretty hassle free. With the Penderyn distillery not far away and the nearby waterfalls in Pontneddfechan and Ysradfellte there's a chance of a scaleable tourism cluster. Good news.

This is great news, and if they can replicate the success they seem to be having in North Wales then this is going to be great for the Rhigos region! This could be the start of a number of attractions up the valleys taking advantage of the geography of the area. The sooner this gets going the better! :)

I'm filing this one in the 'not gonna happen' drawer for now but I'd be happy to be proved wrong.

One of the world’s biggest planetariums is planned for a site in South Wales.

It is hoped Planetariwm Wales will be drive future investment, create employment opportunities and economic regeneration in the immediate areas and wider city region.

The plans have received support from industry pioneers, such as The Eden Project’s Sir Tim Smith, and it is anticipated that it would transform the site of the former Tower Colliery.
