Ashley Govier has announced his plans for the Coal Exchange.

https://nation.cymru/news/developer-plans-to-break-the-law-to-save-part-of-wales-heritage/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2u3Kl4t_xtHTcXSkuyyLdeAGuios-Wpls97u-sVU2X0x-33fxmfTzoT28_aem_P1E5OavTPV7RXzsXX6aDgw

As I expected, they are saying that only the facade of the north side can be saved and the only viable option is to build a new internal structure with additional stores on order to support facade retention and return enough capital to renovate the rest of the building. I appreciate the this will go down like a cup of cold sick for many people, but I don't see any realistic alternative. Anything else is going to require significant public money or some deep-pocketed private benefactor.

What I didnt expect was him to announce that he intends to do this without prior planning permission/listed building consent. There are times when it's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission, but this seems like it could put the council/cadw etc in a very awkward position and/or see Mr Govier in court.
