Cardiff Bay's Sports Village (Velodrome, BMX & Zip Wire)

PostThu Mar 11, 2021 1:38 am

Article popped up last night on a couple of websites about plans for a new Velodrome and more adding to the sports village in the bay. Apparently, the council will be approving the master plan soon.

- A zip wire tower.
- A large format bicycle shop.
- Space to attract new adventure sport/leisure attractions.

Unless I'm mistaken, the velodrome isn't a Newport style indoor venue but an outdoor replacement for the Maindy stadium circuit. The mention of a 'clubhouse and stand' for the track would seem to confirm that.

IIRC there's a new-build replacement for Cathays High School planned for the Maindy site.

There's already a zip wire at the white water centre so I'm not sure if the article is referring to that or something different.

Yes, it looks like an outdoor velodrome in the new picture,

Looks like the Zip wire is separate to and bigger than the one existing on the white water site.
Also, looks like it incorporates a BMX track and the road from morrisons down to Pool/CIWW will be pedestrianised.

I like this. Probably needs quite a few trees to stop it being a bit bleak and wind swept like the Olympic park in Stratford - Stratford is a bit bleak in general really.

For the past few days work crews have been on site drilling and removing parts of the old parking lot. Looks like they might be doing the soil samples etc. for the engineering design.
