This has been in the pipeline for a number of years and at last some activity!

At 84 metres this will be the tallest building in Cardiff! a whopping 4 metres higher than Capital tower that was completed back in the late 60's!! and 1 metre taller than the current title holder almost finished at central square. Anyway don't want to sound negative as it's great to see this development seemingly getting underway :) This area is getting pretty busy with the apartments just 50yards further down curran rd reaching completion, the substantial development Anchorworks at ground work stage and a planning ap for a sizeable development in trade st (suffolk house).
Anyway back to this tower - I'll keep you posted with regular photo updates here

It's be welcomed without doubt. With the changes in the retail enviroment, healthy town and city centres depend on having a large residential population to turbo charge the hospitality sector. 1960s style zoning is dead and gone and the more people who actually live in central Cardiff, the better!

Hi Paul
Good to see this one getting underway. The whole area will change loads over the next few years.
One thing though, I thought the Zenith and Bridge St Exchange were both around 85 metres, making them the current tallest. Not sure where I got those figures from though so may be wrong.

I've often seen differing heights for those buildings but being the buildings geek that I am!! the heights of both those buildings are 81m according to the planning apps. and the interchange tower is give or take a few inches, 83m. The one that I'm not sure of, and one of our forumers (Peiriannydd I think it was) has also mentioned this, is the height of capital tower, it's always shown as 80m but could that be more like 85m? Anyway when the tower at Guildford Cresc. gets underway the great debate :geek: about Cardiffs tallest will be put to bed as its a cloud piercing :) 96m (ok slight exaggeration!). oh to go over 100m!! central quay? or a re-emergence of the disappointment at custom house st? and will we ever go higher than 107m to knock swansea of it's perch (as we completely fail to do in football - but that's another story!!!  ) oh well as we say at CardiffWalesMap... "upward is onward" - just made that gem up ;)

Just drove past on penarth road whilst out on my delivery run and saw there is a crane up to the cab height but it look far to low to build a 27 story building?

Could seen much of it behind the buildings so guess it’s one of these cranes that can add extra base section to itself?

The arm is at a steep angle this morning, maybe that's how it's going to reach.
Difficult to judge as there's nothing to compare it with from where I am.

Any idea what will be done with this building?
