While I have no brief for the developer, I do think that facadism seldom works when it involves a lo-rise facade in front of a high rise building. I'm looking at you, Altalusso!

I would agree - I remain unconvinced by the Premier Inn on Custom House Street.

Whilst I disagree completely with the decision to knock down the buildings to begin with, keeping the facades of the former Gwdihw etc. would've looked awful. Better that they start from afresh at least.

So did the council halt the construction of this since they demolished the facade? Would hate nothing to be built at all after all this fuss.

The site is quite busy, and I had a quick chat with the banksman who said that piling will commence next week! As much as I love tall buildings, I would have left this crescent alone. But that is all history now and I'm looking forward to seeing this one go up! at 96metres it'll be our new tallest. As for the construction of look alike original crescent buildings, why? anyway we'll see what happens. On the construction front, this is quite a small site and a bit tricky to get to, all part of the challenge!! :)

Ah, so they are constructing a mock crescent instead?

Good news they are carrying on as usual though.

Saw quite a few yellow crane parts heading down the M4 past Newport this morning. Possibly for this development?

I saw the base of a yellow crane in position just now as my train left Queen Street.

As per an notice on the Cardiff Bus website Lower Churchill Way will be closed 15-20 February for a crane installation. I presume that this will be for the Guildford Crescent tower. Although 4-5 days for one crane seem to be a long time?

My understanding is this is 2 cranes going up and it usually takes a couple of days to do one seems about right
