Is Cardiff Completed?

PostTue Aug 16, 2022 1:18 am

Just wondering if Cardiff is now completed as there has been no activity for a while..
It was a dynamic time whilst the developments and evolution lasted..
Womanby Street and City Road these streets have character
I also like Dumballs Road and hope that there can be art space inline with the new residential..

Roath/Cathays/Heath is a lively area of Cardiff as is Canton/ Riverside - I think both areas would benefit from further mid rise development..

If I could see one more development in Cardiff it would be an art gallery. Think big, reach for the sky..

You like Dumballs Rd? It's ok, I guess... Could do with more development... And it being coined the link between the city and Bay is rubbish, it should of been Lloyd George Ave!

Totally agree with art gallery, a Tate Modern size thing in Porth Teigr maybe?

If i could see Mount Stuart Sq/ W Bute St evolve into a proper destination like a Cardiffs mini version of Manchesters 'Northern Quarter' or 'Soho' that would make me very very happy. Such beautiful buildings wasted on estate agencies... And it would stretch the city out, putting less strain on St Mary St

I don't think it's anywhere near finished with major projects either in the very likely pipeline or underway. The Embankment in the Dumballs road area I believe is still proceeding. Central Quay is just (hopefully) days or maybe weeks away from construction actually getting underway. The Cardiff arena is a very significant project that is still in the not very distant pipeline, and if that does proceed then it's very likely to mean the demolition of the motorpoint arena for the canal 1/4 plans to get underway. Then we've got the metro plans which are pretty significant and individual developments of some considerable size. Actually I'll use this moment to point in the direction of my newly revamped cardiff development map - I'm still tweaking but it's hopefully pretty informative about development in the city centre down to the bay.. http://cardiffwalesmap.com/CardiffDevelopments.htm
Oh and not on my map but hopefully the sports village will be getting a velodrome - I haven't heard those plans have been scrapped? mind you I almost bought some ski's for the indoor slope so I'll hang fire on my racing pushbike for now!! :)

Paul - can i make a suggestion for your map....the Cardiff Bay and Queen Street Stations are now operated by TfW - so why not indicate these stations with a Metro logo instead? Use both Network Rail and Metro logos at Cardiff Central.

Also add Butetown metro station. Probably too early to add Pierhead Street for now.
Build it and they will come.
Get it wrong and they will fall off.

Cheers Msmurf - many thanks for your comments and yes those are valid points - I'll put it them on my to-do list!! mind you a bit like various developments I shan't show anything as completed until it is, I'm sure all new stations etc. plans for metro will happen but just sometimes things don't always get done as originally planned  :)

Diolch. I included Butetown station because the construction dates have been confirmed - but agree it is premature for Pierhead Street.
