Tramshed developers plans for Cardiff Bay train station

I'm a little confused. They are renovating the building and bringing in shipping containers?

It is a confusing article. The shipping containers will be at Loft Co's Goodsheds development in Barry.

Are you sure? My reading is that there will be a shipping container by Platform for a daytime coffeeshop and a rotating cast of street food vendors on weekends whilst the Barry site will have 50 shipping containers with permanent places for some street food people (who will then become the rotating cast for the Cardiff Bay one)

My mistake. I am surprised that the council would allow the container aesthetic here. It is very prominent and could have been an architectural statement. I guess the figures don’t stack up for anything extravagant.
I was involved in embryonic plans a few years back to turn this building into a global centre for grassroots politics, with a forum at its centre where anyone could speak while in a space surrounded by restaurants, bars, conference and meeting rooms, and hotel rooms in the upper floors of the original building. The old roof over the platform was to be replaced by a large glass box which would contain the forum and places to eat.
The figures didn’t really stack up.

Fancy! I have two observations though: firstly the exterior of the building is obviously not going to be covered in tropical ferns and bamboo. Secondly, how are those power boats and catamarans supposed to get into the dock?

If you want a depressing read, look at the comments following the Walesonline article.

Some seem to live in a parallel universe where money is no object. Others seem to be perennial whingers. It makes me despair of human nature really!

Totally agree! that comments section pretty much always delivers the same miserable mixture of non thought out pessimism, to be avoided at all costs!! ;)

On paper I really like this scheme. With the amount of jobs being moved or created in the centre of town it's only natural that people will want to relocate to a central location. I would say that there's a severe lack of privately owned flats in the centre of Cardiff. I welcome this scheme, the one on Herbert Street and the ones to be built above the bus interchange. People are obsessed with owning houses, something I don't understand.

Cardiff can be a dead zone at times in the week because not enough people live in the city centre.
