Edit: Just checked, the architects listed for Westgate Plaza in 2018 were Gaunt Francis who have a Cardiff office on Womanby Street.

Yep, the only building on the model that doesn't exist is that tall block in the middle (with windows) which is where Westgate Plaza is supposed to go. Whilst the angle of the picture doesn't show us the other side, it definitely seems to be a much more standard and boring version of the original concept:

I was wondering when this was going to happen - looking out for signs of road closure as usually it takes a hefty beast to construct these tower cranes. Still that's good news and we should see something above ground soon(ish) OK I know some people wish this one wouldn't progress above ground!! but you never know we could be pleasantly surprised? :?

Am I right to think this model shows a pedestrianised Westgate Street? I can't see how that could ever be possible.

I doubt the entire street of Westgate would be pedestrianized, just the portion around the hotel, with a crossing.

"Everywhere you go in all the major cities around the world, to increase footfall you need a healthy mix of leisure, office, potentially a place to stay and retail, maybe a place to eat and drink."

Cardiff city centre has already got an abundance of each of these, indeed there are multiple locations where there is ample empty unoccupied space for this. Why do they think that creating a microcosm of the city centre at one location will somehow be a panacea? It's either desperation or just a sweetener to hide bad news.

I wonder if BT will just remain where they are in Cardiff, maybe at most refurbish, or whether we'll see them occupy a new office as well or instead. I'm not really all that aware of how many roles they have in the city these days.
