Plot J, Capital Quarter, Tyndall Street which is nearing completion is to be known as The Copper Works.

I haven't been past there in a while so not sure how similar to the CGI render it is.

I think it will be very similar to the CGI images.
It does seem to be taking an age to clad the building though. Feels like it has been going on for years

Thanks so much for all of the photographs on Flickr (I think it’s Paul I’m thanking!) I’m sure it’s a bit of a pain to upload a set every week but being away from Cardiff at the moment, I really enjoy looking through them and seeing how everything is progressing, much appreciated.

Cheers James! I'll keep you posted. I live very close to city centre and go in pretty much daily, and with mobile phones having such great cameras nowadays it's no chore - but really nice to see your message. :)

Cardiff Demolition are on site at the Coal Exchange Hotel dismantling the roof of the north wing of the building. Not sure if this means that the whole of the north wing is going to be demolished?

Is the North Wing part of the original structure? In that case surely they won't be demolishing it as it's grade II listed. Maybe removing/replacing the roof, which may be allowed without needing additional planning consent? Just speculating though.

I presume if there is an imminent threat of collapse then they may be allowed, if not obliged, to safely demolish part of the building without having to first obtain listed building consent. But you have to wonder how the hell it was allowed to get into this state - shouldn't the owners have been obliged to shore-up the structure? In the past the council has stepped in to do just that when the owners refused or were unable to do so.

Spoke with one of the workers there earlier today who said that the rear wall of the building has started to bow, and they think that the roof is causing it. So the roof is being removed as an emergency measure in the hope that it will stop the rear of the building from collapsing.
