A 'potentially dangerous' church could be knocked down

n application has been made to demolish a historic and “potentially dangerous” building in Cardiff.

The Citadel building stands on Splott Road and Pearl Street in Adamsdown but it could now be demolished.

The application has been made to Cardiff council to demolish the building to allow redevelopment.

It is so sad the number of comparatively new developments that have to under go major remedial work so soon after they are built. The latest is the office complex on the Cogan spur, which hasn't even been fully let yet and its having a full scaffold cocoon built to facilitate repairs.
These building should last for 20-30 years, how can they get things so badly wrong?
It would be like new cars sitting at Avonmouth having their sun roofs fixed prior to being sold. (actually I heard this was the case!!)

Don't know how we missed this but:

Good news everyone! More student flats! A reasonably tall development on City Road. I imagine this will divide opinion.

Cardiff's growing upwards. You wait for a tall build for years and then 10 come along at once. Hopefully they're all good quality.

Hideous.

The previous plans - before the Poets Corner was knocked down were fine. Although taller than the surrounding buildings the renders respected and complimented the streetscape.

This is just so wrong. Its way out of scale to surrounding buildings, the design is just too confused, the tower element is just nonsensical. Unfortunately there is no reason to turn down the planning app so it will probably get passed. I suspect it will get value engineered to within an inch of it's life anyway which may actually be a blessing here.

City Road was shaping up to be a great street. It needs subtle redevelopment of redundant buildings, refurbishment of some of the shabbier buildings, a good clean up and soft landscaping. If the old gaiety cinema could be used for a destination purpose - concert venue or perhaps a food court (something like the Depot in Dumballs Rd) it could really take off. It really doesn't need blingy mid-rise shit like this.

From the WalesOnline article about the City Road student block:

"The building would be made out of glass and “feature cladding”, according to a planning application which will be decided on Wednesday."

A building made out of glass and "feature cladding"?!

Sounds a bit brittle.

A section 106 agreement has appeared on the planning app for the York hotel and custom house development, a whole year after the plans were first lodged.
Does that mean we will be seeing work on this sometime soon???

Yes, usually. If the developer is trying to get discharges onthe planning conditions then it's usally a sign that they want to crack on.
