Some activity at Southside Callaghan Sq.

Image

Haven't got a clue what is going on here although Knights Brown are doing the work on the wood street road upgrade/changes so maybe related?

But it gets me thinking how lopsided callaghan square is, the potential of the actual square is not going to be realised until those two big plots are developed.

the main construction of the easy hotel looks to be complete..

Early this year the original contractor Sanderson ceased trading and work stopped. Step in Cardiff contractors Carter Lauren to takeover and take it to where it currently is and continue to completion no doubt. Bit of a relief that this development didn't stand mothballed for ages! Of course next door there is planning approval for a significant student development https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/approval-given-seriously-impressive-towers-13616002 but let's face it that seems unlikely for many reasons now. :|
wishful thinking... step in PRSector

Little update on Facebook of all places. So ads for Bradley Court show that it should be finished by third quarter 2021

Can't see this one getting through.

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/politics/cardiff-cathedral-road-apartments-property-18982154

The plans themselves are pretty bland but there's no way this will get the nod when the existing buildings are in a conservation area and seem perfectly servicable. A case of developer hubris.

The danger, as always in these cases, is that the developer leaves the buildings empty in the hope that they will detoriarate or "go on fire". A beady eye needs to be kept - but there are plenty of those in Pontcanna!

Agree the design is naff but the Wales Online article image does misrepresent the actual plans, which are to demolish the 1930s building next door, not those Victorian buildings they show in their article

Not sure if this link will work but it's the building on the corner of Cathedral Road and Talbot Street

This is a 3D model they've done and you can see the development in a bit more context

The first link works the second doesn't. As ever, linking to the Cardiff Council planning website is a mystery!
