Has BT not still got their data centre down the Bay at Watkiss Way?

Google has Stadium House, Watkiss Way and a part floor in Cardiff Gate which it says is BT Local Business.

As they're talking of aspirational, futuristic work spaces I wonder if they'll remodel a current site or find a new location.

That makes sense
So it’s looking like a bit of movement and hopefully see a start sometime in the near future

a planning app was approved for this development a couple of years ago - maybe this is going to happen! https://sites.savills.com/crawshaycourt/en/page_116785.php

I would't give my hopes up, as these buildings rarely look like their their renders...

From Council Leader's response to council on the m4 relief road decision:

"Cardiff Council has argued consistently that the city's future prosperity relies on an effective transport infrastructure, with seamless access to the UK's motorway network and free flowing routes into and around the city. We will be bringing forward our own vision for the city in the next few months, with a series of transformative infrastructure projects - in rail, road, public transport and cycling infrastructure - representing a £1 billion investment over the next 10 years. That, alongside the delivery of the Metro, could fundamentally reshape the transport infrastructure in the city."

£1 billion infrastructure investment + a metro would be amazing, but hard to believe

There is an interesting planning application from the developers of the nearly finished student accommodation next to the Gaiety building on City Road. Application is for a permanent change of use to non-student residential, not just for the 1st year.
The planning officers are recommending committee refuse this request and are scathing in their report (in committee next week)

A few interesting points:
- developer says there is an over provision of private student accommodation and their scheme will become unviable. The council says as universities increase their proportion of overseas students who want this accommodation, demand could well be there.
- developer says 3000 beds worth of student accommodation has been approved but won’t proceed. Council says only 1 application has been withdrawn and 1 developer gone into administration
- developer wants permanent change of use and to also not make any s106 or other contributions as this also would not make the scheme viable
- the list of reasons why the officers want to refuse is long: lack of external amenity space, insufficient cycle space, poor quality outlook, insufficient privacy between flats, lack of windows for natural light and that ultimately it is not a well designed quality scheme for residential (although perfectly adequate for students)

Good to see the Planning Dept making a clear message on this
