Full planning application with DAS for HMS Cambria is in the portal (18/00792/MJR)

https://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=_CARDIFF_DCAPR_123339

Unfortunately the final design is the big grey box we saw value engineered to death a few months ago

Does anyone have any details of what’s going up currently next to stadium house? I’ve seen articles talking about the HMRC’s new building but that only talks about it being 12 floors, yet when I walked passed it yesterday I could’ve sworn the core of the structure was at 14 floors... basically I just want to know how tall and how many floors it will have!

Thanks.

It's HMRC, regardless of whether it's 12 or 14 floors.

Did you take a photo? I'm sure it's only meant to be 12.

So - from this...

to this...

Well originally when I was excited about the prospect of this building, my only regret was that it was slightly out of the way - ironically, with the bland box they are likely to actually build, that is now the only comfort!!

Why don't they just build it out of the way somewhere else...it would fit right in at Celtic Springs as part of the Airbus offices there, it looks so similar!

That sums it up, bloody business park quality!

The render is acutally a bit nicer than that in the planning app, but not much. Also whys the ensign backwards on the main flag pole!

As always with the UK government the attitude is they're just Wales, they'll take any old shit. If Pacer trains with locked toilets are fine, why not this?

That design change is shitty. That design left the 21st century and backtracked into the 20th century...

I dont think its anything to do with it being Wales. Its to do with it being an MOD building in a somewhat out of the way location.

I didn't see this coming at all, I thought DWP were lined up for Central Square for that last plot next to the HMRC building (assuming these are the same jobs). I guess they were after cost savings, or maybe as part of the City Region thing someone somewhere is trying to spread more jobs around the region a bit.

For me, as a valley boy, it's a good thing. It's been nice to see lately a few government body offices lined up for the Pontypridd area (e.g. Transport for Wales). It's just off the A470, not far up the M4 and already has and will have improved links by metro from the Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr lines...as well as northbound from Cardiff. There's also buses into the area from various places and hopefully the bus links might improve as part of the metro plans (which isn't just about rail after all).

How traffic will cope around Trefforest Industrial Estate and the two main junctions off the A470 either side will be interesting though, both the Nantgarw and Upperboat junctions are hardly quiet places. Many people will drive, just as they do to get into Cardiff.
