Just had a stroll around town. Cranes everywhere! BBC HQ and No.2 are starting to shape up quite nicely with some high quality materials starting to appear, and Capital Quarter is coming on fast. Can't wait to see some more developments south of the railway line too. Busy times ahead!

More student residential accommodation. This time in Howard Gardens (next to the park). At least there will be a public coffee shop!

On the old bowling green site. A bit concerned about no car parking provision as parking is tight in that area already. Maybe the developers think that not a single student will bring a car with them!

given that most students in these developments will be foreign I'd say that is probably a fair assumption to make

There is an application in for new flooring for Duke St, High St and Castle arcades. See below -

http://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-a ... 953091.pdf

I welcome new flooring - especially for Duke St arcade, but not so sure about what they have chosen. The flooring will be the same for all three arcades and will be patterned. I have also noticed during my lunchtime sojourns that High Street arcade is being decorated. All of the shop fronts are being painted in a dark grey and the walls above in a mixture of white and light grey. It would appear that the new owners want a uniform look across the arcades (as well as the properties facing High Street which I belive form part of their estate). It seems as though the flooring has been chosen to fit in with the new colour scheme.

Anything that lifts the arcades is to be welcomed but I'm a little uneasy that they appear to be losing their individual identity. To me it's part of their charm.

I saw the new statue plinth at the bottom of Lloyd George Avenue being prepared and I sort of thought it might be David Lloyd George since he doesn't have a statue in Cardiff and he's the closest thing to a Welsh UK PM there has been. (he was born in Manchester!)

But, I was amazed when I found out who it will be.

Mahatma Gandhi :?

Can someone remind me what's the connection?

Looking like the Fitzalan Place/Newport Road scheme of four towers is going to get approval.

I wonder how quickly they'll start after getting permission?
