The new Premier Inn for Custom House has been officially submitted. I'm all for the build, it would add nicely to the skyline with the nearby 42 story. But I don't like the design, it needs to be more plush and worthy.

Great height but goodness me, what is that first picture? it looks like something from Minecraft

Churchill Way has been closed this morning due to concerns over the structure of one of the Leo Abse buildings currently being converted.

Don't think this has been posted here yet. It looks interesting, especially since it's on Dumballs road which is just at the start of some development.

This is at least the 3rd different proposal for this site... I'm not sure we'll ever see anything built here

They look good. Not earth shattering but I think dense with good materials is probably whats needed here rather than statement architecture all over the place.

It does seem as though the masterplan is dead in the water. There have been a number of proposals for this area from different developers recently. Thats good but I do hope that there is an over arching 'style' be it in terms of material or density so that the area has a bit of consistency. At the moment the northren end is dominated by mediocre beige brick office and the southern end by Century wharf which is a bit of a curates egg. Perhaps the middle bit will be a step up in quality.

However the area gets developed I really hope that there are east west routes from the river to Bute Street. I would be tempted to sacrifice a bit of Canal Park to make sure that there is access otherwise Butetown will become more of an island than it already is.

I didn't know their were previous proposals - but at the moment Brickworks is under construction very nearby and that Crawshay tower keeps getting mentioned. With at least some redevelopment of the Brains brewery site very likely and the apparent disappearance of dumballs road area masterplan maybe it's quite likely that these developments will happen.

oh and please keep bothering Karl! it's much appreciated ;) and Welcome Thomas!

That northern area of Dumballs Road seems to have a few proposals on the go for residential at the moment, it'll be good to see a residential district develop around there. I just hope there's enough commercial space to go with it for the residents to have some facilities - maybe a few stores, cafes etc. I know Central Quay is being planned, but that is years away realistically.
