I'm sure it's only us 'interesting' folk on here that give that much thought to any kind of tallest in Wales title! :)

My favourite skyline remains as manhattan - fantastic mix of tall buildings constructed during the last 100 years. I haven't been to Chicago but my skyscraper loving nephew rates that as No1. Dubai's are all pretty recent so it makes for a different kind of skyline - I'm sure I'd love it mind!!

Now just the small task of delivery!

Is there any further news of a new arena in Cardiff? It constantly pops up but never ever seems to happen...

Tomorrow's Echo and Western Mail. Be interested to see what's said, I've been waiting for this for some time.

Proposed sites include Cardiff Prison, Red Dragon Centre, Dumballs Road, Cardiff Arms Park, Callaghan Square and interestingly County Hall.

I've just bought a flat on Schooner Way so the possibility of the new arena being on the Red Dragon site excites me. I'd welcome to demolition of Cardiff Prison to make way for this but I'm not sure the infrastructure there could cope. Red Dragon makes sense with the newly built link road and existing links there, along with Callaghan Square / Dumballs Road with Cardiff Central nearby.

I’m more excited about the sacking of that dreadful Christmas tree!

Great news about the arena though. Looks like it’s being pushed a lot more than I thought. It’s interesting that the motorpoint is expected to close after. More space for another tower I presume...

The image looks good, and the location is great in my opinion. If it gets built on the red dragon land, and Box City also gets the go ahead, we could see the Bay become a much more lively place.

Excellent news that it is being pushed forward - some views on the possible locations:

Red Dragon - an excellent location which would bring more of a solid feel to the Bay
County Hall - No - This is just an excuse for Cardiiff Council to build themeselves another new set of offices
Callaghan Square - Good transport links - Not sure it is big enough but would help finish the square off - maybe better to stick with offices here
Dumballs Road - an interesting possibility - with good potential to link to Central Quay - maybe the best location in terms of land regeneration
Arms Park - I think this is good site for a Conference centre but too cramped for Arena - traffic would be a problem - stick to Rugby
Prison - existing prison should probably be demolished and relocated - but not sure if this is best location for Arena - I think site would be better suited for university campus

Time for a separate thread ?
Build it and they will come.
Get it wrong and they will fall off.

It would appear that CCC want the Welsh government, city region and the private sector to finance their arena in full. Just how much will CCC contribute?
