I really like the concrete and the overall design of the building. Wish they'd replace the windows though! Same goes for the Motorpoint Arena.

I'm can't decide if the negative slant in this story is a big deal or not. Sure, the HMRC deal is a big percentage but in some of the previous years we've had the same, with Admiral a few years ago, the BBC in 2016 etc.

I guess we'll soon see with how lettings go at the the almost finished 3 Capital Quarter in the next few months and Number 4 later in the year, plus interest in the office part of The Interchange, and whether other schemes move forward at John Street or Central Quay any time soon.

That story makes no sense. The HMRC deal was a letting, just like everything else. If the BBC deal never happened in 2016 and this HMRC letting still went ahead then the increase would have been even greater for 2017. I don't understand what they are trying to say. If Admiral was never built then it would be even easier for us to beat previous years. Worry about the year we are in and what is being built and let. Not ifs and buts on something that has happened, we can do that on anything.

You're right that many years have these big "one off" lettings. So you can't ignore them when looking at overall demand / take-up. But two things:
- The HMRC deal was especially big.
- If you want a sense of underlying demand, you probably do want to strip out (or smooth out) the very largest deals.

Isn't it fair to say that in the most prime real estate that we have - at least in the city centre - the private sector has shown very little interest? I don't know what the answer is but it's grim. The centralisation of organisations like HMRC is obviously a boon but isn't likely to be too popular in all the smaller towns that lose out.

2 interesting applications to be decided at next week’s Planning meeting - the new 2 building proposal for John Street (tower with hotel to be 27 floors and 99m tall) and the rejected student accommodation on Trade Street is back with some amendments and seeking approval again. Not sure I understand that as thought the councillors rejected it on the basis of it not being an appropriate location for student accommodation. I guess we’ll see what they say. Hopefully with an approval for 1st building at John Street, JR Smart will crack on with Capital 3& 4 progressing well

Re. John St... Well the original got planning permission and not much changed from that other than a bit more height and the building has now been 'separated' so fingers crossed that this is given the thumbs up! and then fingers crossed again that it gets built!! With the rad blu - customhse tower and herb st tower very close this area would surely be the main focus of our skyline for sometime to come.
