Both big student developments and both the Dumballs Road projects were approved, according to today's Echo.

Apparently imminent two weeks ago:

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/business/commercial-property/work-biggest-student-scheme-ever-14370907

Work on the biggest ever student accommodation scheme in Cardiff will start shortly following a major property deal.

The Cardiff East Bay 711 student bed scheme will be built on the existing Evans Halshaw Citroen dealership site at East Bay Close, close to the centre of Cardiff.

Work on the project, which already has planning consent, can now start after the property arm of car dealership Pendragon, sold the site to specialist student accommodation development firm JEDS Investment.

Someone want to take a look next time they're driving down the Central Link?

I walked past last week and no signs of activity - I'm sure I'll walk past again one day this week to check to see if anything going on.

Nice to see some care given to buildings, a few buildings have been given a spruce up recently and look all the better for it.

From watching this week’s planning committee:

Bradley Court - the officer presented it as a decision to approve based on a balanced response. The tall building would have an adverse impact on local heritage sites but the positives of the development, quality design & materials, bringing back the listed building next door, the economic benefits of students & improvements to public realms, outweigh that adverse impact. Cadw didn’t have an issue with it but other societies did. For me, regardless of the quality, I will always hate this building for being in the wrong place, but it’s happening now and from their brochures it will happen quick. I hope the building is as impressive as described to lessen my hatred.

Howard Gardens - lots of objections and some disagreement from committee, particularly around the loss of open/community space. But a bit of shrugging shoulders and ‘what can you do?’ A shame really.

Student accommodation - first rule of planning committee - Do not discuss demand for student accommodation! Primarily because it’s not a planning concern, but it didn’t stop some. Forecasts show there is still the demand but I guess only reality will tell.

Dumballs road - both residential developments went through very quickly with much praise. The only gripe was the lack of affordable housing and/or 106 contributions. Not viable, apparently

"Cardiff’s office market moves up a league in terms of investor interest" - Property Week

Not heard the hotel operator mentioned before.

The Ledger will sit alongside a new car park and Moxy Hotel. Cardiff Metropolitan University has also selected Central Quay as the home for its School of Technologies and McCarthy says the university is keen to deliver further space, including 600 student apartments.
