Is the National War Memorial the one In Alexandra Gardens in Cathays Park? It was in desperate need of some TLC last time I walked past. Presumably it's being prepared for the centenary of the ending of WW1.

On a different note the dock gates between the bay and Roath Dock are being restored, also the national war memorial is being restored...lots of restoration going on at the moment of historical structures and buildings.

The lock gates? Not sure how they can be restored (except for perhaps aesthetically) because the bridge by The Norwegian Church is never going to swing.

I had a look yesterday. It's basically the wooden walkways over them that are being repaired. It looks like they may patch some of the holes inthe outer gate too. It's cosmetic but still welcome.

Read they are sorting out the building near eastgate house soon, the red brick one on the corner where Lloyd’s was. There’s a planning doc out for it.

A delegation from Cardiff Council and Welsh Government flew to Doha a few days ago to present a portfolio of multi-million-pound major investment opportunities in Cardiff. Apparently the arena is one of them.

Potential of Qatar investing in our arena project? Central quay? I'd be genuinely surprised if they didn't invest into something... Perhaps even the airport itself?

Planning app to convert student accommodation at 24 park place into serviced apartments up at committee - officers recommend to approve
http://cardiff.moderngov.co.uk/ieListDo ... 3463&Ver=4
Council justify it as a change of use to a hotel class in a zone designated for hotel, so it gets approved. They agree that the student apartments aren't over priced but at £180 per week, I just can't agree
Approved or not, at just 34 pricey apartments, I'm not sure this indicates a trend for the larger developments but will be interesting to see councillors views
It's also had a request to be called in by the Welsh government - don't know much about these, but would be interesting to know more about the request and made by whom

There seems to be a fair bit of activity aling Penarth road at the site of the old Europcar depot (between Poeton and Kia), I presume this is for BMW’s new site and to further enable the Central Quay development to proceed?

Also, any ideas on tennants for the old Wickes and Land Rover units? It looks rather neglected down that end with two prominent empty units....
