Construction of the Easy Hotel, Fitzalan Place has stopped as the contractor has ceased to be! https://www.constructionenquirer.com/2020/01/22/30-jobs-to-be-axed-as-sanderson-contracts-shuts-down/
So the building is currently at level 5 with only 3 to go, so what happens next? How easy is it for Easy Hotel to get some other contractor to continue construction or will the project be mothballed for 6 or 12 months or maybe not happen at all?

Seriously? I doubt they would just cancel a building contract when it hasn't been completed? Surely they'd complete what they've been contracted to do? Where does it say they have cancelled the hotel?

They can and do all the time!!

A massive development on The Mancunian Way in Manchester was left as a half constructed building site for the best part of 10 years!

Well that's just stupid and irresponsible. Something should be done about that!

Closer to home this one off Newport Rd has been half built since atleast 2009 (from Google Earth satellite imagery) maybe earlier? And as far as I know it's still there with the contractors name and phone number on the sign. Dunno what went wrong, presumably recession given the date.

How can you pay your workers two years wages up front?

This kind of thing happens a lot. Thankfully the UK has one the best bankruptcy process around (not as good as the US) so Easy Hotel will be able to get a new firm in if they want to continue with the hotel.

I mean, have it so have the cash ready and paid to them over the period of 2 years. Or would that be too expensive? XD

I don't know how that could work. The building co will have bills to meet for supplies and probably interest on loans. Without supplies theres no point in having builders on site. They wouldn't want to have money ring fenced like that. With interest rates so low sitting on a pile of cash isn't that exciting now (back in the 80s GEC had a huge pile of cash which earnt them more money than some of their businesses.).
The co can still go broke which would still leave the employees unable to carry on working.
