Brewhouse & Kitchen opening next week https://twitter.com/BK_Cardiff?lang=en

Shame to have lost the 'Mochyn Du' name though.

Gutted to hear the Mochyn Du is gone, by far my favourite place to watch international games (other than the Stadium!)

It will be interesting to see if B&K can hold on to the Welsh speaking crowd that the Mochyn Du had. They clearly know that it something they will need to do seeing as how they've created a Welsh language version of their menu and website especially for this new location (and have tweeted in Welsh).

And even have a beer named 'Y Mochyn Du' which is unfortunately an 'English Style Ale' http://www.brewhouseandkitchen.com/wp-c ... ages-1.pdf

The new Patisserie Valerie has been open on Queen Street for about a week, and looks lovely. That little area of the street has really come back to life lately.

Indian street food chain Mowgli's coming to Cardiff -

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/whats-on/ ... t-14441676

The only empty unit in Church Street that I can think of is the old Bet Fred next to the Old Arcade (assuming that the plans to demolish the red brick building opposite are still going ahead).

It's going in the red brick building, in the former Poundstretcher unit.

Was it official stated that the block was getting demolished? I know there has been a demolition company's name in the window for some time but there's a chance that the company doesn't just demolish.

Or, perhaps it's only that end of the block getting knocked down. If you look closely, the bit which used to house Atma (next to Owain-GD) is a slightly different brick and style to the rest. Is it possibly a separate building?

Yes - there was an application for demolition and re-development a little while back. Then it was announced that a cocktail bar was going in one unit (the Botanist?) and then I think the strip club in the basement moved out, then the demolition company moved in and then nothing until this announcement about Mowgli's.

The plans for the redeveloped building were not fantastic but definately an improvement. It now looks as though the building will stay. If it does I hope it's remodelled in some way. The article says that Mowglis are not moving in until 2019 - is that long enough for a demolition and rebuild? Perhaps it's a pre-let for the new building?

No, Mowgli's have signed for the existing unit.

The block is being redeveloped and The Botanist have signed for a small entrance on the ground floor plus the whole first and second floors. There are 3 or 4 other smaller units on the ground floor of which I think there were 2 available when I saw the brochure.

I imagine it will be a reconfiguration and re-cladding job rather than rebuild though.

Yes you're right it's mainly re-classing with some minor demolition see application 16/00945/MJR https://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online- ... APR_116035

It'll be confusing as there is already a 'Mowgli's' in Cardiff on Crwys Road
