I doubt very much that serious money will be spent on a new raised carriageway to complete this scheme, my prediction is that they will dual Rover way with amendments to steel works and scrapyard access, and will maybe block up the Tescos access so you'd need to use Ffordd Pengam instead. A dualled Rover way will be restricted to 40mph and would have a minimal central reservation and this would also apply to a widened Southern Way flyover. The Llanedeyrn interchange would simply require blocking off the access from Llanedeyrn Road/Circle Way West who will need to access the A48 via Pentwyn possible through an access road running beside the A48 up to Bryn Celyn Road.

Great find, would be interesting whether the just plan to tart up Rover Way or build a new dual carriage way, adjacent to Rover Way, with no turnoffs from Ocean Way up to the Lamby Way roundabout. I live in hope of the latter!

Assuming they do this, it will eventually lead to the the Llanedeyrn roundabout on the A48 becoming choked during rush-hour. Hopefully some improvements to this roundabout would be considered as part of the new development.

Anyway, latest Eastern Link video for your delight:

Isn't the link road supposed to (one day!) tie up with the Cardiff Gate junction on the A48, not Llandedryn. That way it ties up the currently displaced section of the A4232

But doing that, it would run parallel with the A48 from Cardiff gate down to somewhere by the David LLoyd tennis centre. It would cross the Rhymney River 2 or 3 times - costs would be significant.

The costs of elevating the entire dualed carriageway has been significant throughout. Look at the Cogan spur, or the Bute tunnel. Compared with the former, the Rhymney is a pretty narrow river. Who knows what cut-down, version we eventually get, if anything, will be, but that route to join up with the other orphaned A4232 I'm pretty sure, formed part of the plan.

But those sections were planned and constructed in far less frugal times and didn't have a similar parallel road already in use.

Well the southernmost stretch is relatively parallel with the A48/A48M, which is in turn relatively parallel with the M4. I'm not sure what further there is to say. It's supposed to be an orbital, a piece of orphaned A4232 may one day be coupled up with the rest of it, or it may never be. Sure, we might get a cut-down version where it stops at the Docks flyover at the Rhymney and further adds to the congestion there, in which case there doesn't seem much point in putting a new dual carriageway there at all, might as well stick with Rover Way.

So the demolition and clearing of land is nothing? It has been going on for a while yes, but building work is due to start sometime this week.

And can you also post in a relevant topic? What has this got to do with the Eastern Bay Link? (General Developments for anything small like this!).
