I can remember it open as a pub - just! That was in the late 70s / early 80s. At that time it had something of a bad reputation but as a stone plaque on the building records in the post-war period it had a reputation for fine dining with Cardiff's first French restaurant.
The really impressive docklands pub was the original Mount Stuart which stood opposite the old post office / Merchant Place more or less where the Sainsbury's Local is now. It was a classic victorian "gin palace" with fantastic wood and glasswork. It was demolished around the time Butetown tunnels were built and I think I'm right in saying that some of the original bars, mirrors etc were saved and installed in the Heath pub.
