The Pen Shop and Crabtree & Evelyn are the latest casualties at St. Davids. Both brands have ceased operation from their stores within the Hayes Arcade.

Pen shop went into administration and as a result closed stores in Leeds, Manchester’s King Street, Edinburgh, Cardiff and two in London, including the St Pancras International station shop

Crabtree and Evelyn has closed ALL its stores and is now online only. Worry times

Cabot Circus in Bristol has just seen its Gant store close along with Michael Korrs. Doesn't look hopeful for Cardiff branch I guess

Some of these brands are very "niche" and will probably only survive in an online form. (I can't remember the last time I bought a pen - it was probably in my school days.) All towns and cities will have fewer shops in the future; the successful city centres will be those which find new uses for those empty spaces.

Not only will the new Hotel Chocolat be a lot bigger than their premises on the Hayes but it will also have one of their cafes

- Clarks have permanently closed their Upper Grand Arcade store, as they extend their frontage of their original Queen Street store

- KIKO Milano has recently closed down and is currently in the process of being converted into Typo. Hoardings advertising Typo have already been erected.

- Clogau are currently refurbishing their store and have temporarily relocated to LG91 (Previously the Crocs Store)

It'll be interesting to see what they open as The Ivy is going into the old Moss Bros unit on the other side of The Hayes.

Good to see that Caprice have bought the Cardiff store, their other restaurants are pretty up market so not sure what would work there.

July Centre Update

- Select are closing their unit on Town Wall South. This will be immediately replaced by Sketchers, whom recently closed their Queens Arcade store.

- Zara will be opening two stores within the centre next year. Once their lease expires on Queen Street, Zara will open a Women's & Kid's store on the Upper Grand Arcade along with a separate Men's store, which is due to be located in UG13/14 (Previously Armani Exchange).
