Save The Coal Exchange

PostWed Dec 03, 2014 11:50 am

Just starting this as a new topic as it's gone past the liquidation of Macomb's company into a new, more positive phase. STCE is now a registered company not-for-profit that can negotiate with other stakeholders and the Council; there's a twitter account (@coalexchange), a Facebook page and regular meetings actually in the Coal Exchange for people interested in helping out - I'm sure there's plenty of people on this board with relevant skills. Wish us luck!

The Coal Exchange was open today for cleanup crews and about 30 people came down and cleared usable offices in the South West Wing as well as getting a tour of the accessible parts. There are some photos on Twitter but I don't know how to bring them here (and they're not mine).

I am aware that there is also a potentially important development about the building which may be announced (if it happens) within the next few months.

I don't want to say anything here because it's not official yet, but I think it will be a newsworthy story if it goes ahead.

Several interested parties looking to the building for potential developments.

I can definitely see this building being used as a high quality hotel. There's a well documented demand for it and the location in Cardiff Bay is favourable.

a small amount of money from the Heritage Lottery Fund, but every little helps, and them working with the save the coal exchange group may really be useful - http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/cardiffs-coal-exchange-building-awarded-10359349
