HMRC hadn't actually signed-up though, so this is just news of that.

What is the most interesting is the lack of a confirmation still over other government departments such as DWP or MoJ taking up space, only that they COULD join HMRC in the hub. The Welsh Office is moving there as well though. Maybe we'll hear more about that later this year and the second building next to this?

I can't see it now personally. There's enough space for a few hundred extra staff in the HMRC building, room for another building of just under 200,000 sq ft next door and the GPU have managed to get a good deal at £16 per square foot. If it happens I reckon they'll just go back to Rightacres now.

JR Smart have recently tarted up their website and the John Street project is still on there, so you never know!

HMRC chief executive Jon Thompson said it will work with Cardiff council to redevelop their current base at Ty Glas, which houses 2,800 staff, following the move.

The Wales Office is tiny in terms of staff numbers. It employs fewer than fifty people and over half are based in Whitehall.

I can see though that there a good political reasons why the UK Government would use the HMRC relocation to establish a visible UKG presence in Wales. I'm willing to bet that the building is branded as the UKG's Welsh HQ who ever ends up occupying it. This photo suggests as much.

Half of St David's house being kept!

Idiotic, surely more cost effective to just demolish it in one go

In an ideal world, it would be far more cost effective. But I've been told that Tesco are being a pain in the proverbial, as they have a long-term lease for their express store.
