BL**** HELL! this seems like amazing news to me! as for the duration and when something pops up over the hoardings, I'm not over concerned. But Hoardings from next week and piling next month WOW!! :) Watkin-Jones - Fair Play!

Indeed Paul, I didnt believe you when you said a week until hoardings, but having checked the document - you're correct.

Sneaky buggers though! They've been secretly starting the preliminary works without us knowing! ;) Thats good though because we know progress has already been made!

And also I suspect the reason why it's going to take until 2021 to finish is because the footprint of the building is so miniscule for such a tall tower.

This tower will change how we see Cardiff now, seeing such a massively tall and slender building (compared to anything else in Cardiff) will make Herbert Street and Bridge Street seem really chunky and will show how low-rise Cardiff really is.

Given the long time frame, we might even see a third tower completed before this one gets topped out - perhaps Dumballs Rd? And work on other towers will have started - maybe John St/Dolffin Quay/Fitzalan Towers! Exciting times for one of the fastest growing cities in the UK. Let the world know!

By the time this tower is completed perhaps work would've began on Central Quay? Tram lines? 15k capacity arena?

MAYBE, JUST MAYBE... the bus station will finally be built!

Excellent news. 2021 seems like a long time but it's a biggie.

Near where I used to live in Dubai Marina there's a couple of towers they were building before I left. It's been almost 4 years since I come home but they are still working on them. Admittedly tbey are 80+ and 101 floors high, but that's the point, they are big engineering and commercial undertakings for an organisation so they take time, sometimes pause for a bit or take a while to get going in the first place etc.

So pleased this is underway, a real milestone for Cardiff!!

this is great news and puts Cardiff behind London, M/cr and Brum in terms of height.

by 2021 I imagine we will have quite a few towers across the city finished: Bayscape, Cardiff Pointe, Charles Street, Herbert Street, John Street, Central Square - who knows, we may even have one or two more...

It will put Cardiff ahead of Birmingham but behind London, Manchester and Liverpool.
Hope tower being 2m taller than 10 Holloway circus in Birmingham

You need to go to the Cardiff Council website. Its still there. It seems that links to their planning documents section are temperamental though. Not sure if they use dynamic URLs so they change as new docs get added?

The page linking to the PDFs places a cookie on your computer. If that cookie isn't present, the PDF will not load.

Go here first http://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-a ... APR_121466 and then click on the third document down.

Exploratory U/G works on new tower progressing well it seems!

Welsh Water said it had been caused by a third party working in the area and that its team was sent "straight to the site". It has since been repaired.
