Yes this would be a big piece in the jigsaw! and bring more activity the other side of the track so's to speak! If this gets built and then capital quarter no.5 ends up being something like it's been hinted at in recent diagrams of the area (90m+ apartments?) then we can pretty much move on from the area!! I'm sure there's plenty going on behind the scenes that maybe will come to light *soonish that may affect whether or not John St is built - I'm referring to where when and if a 15-20,000 arena is decided upon.

*that's only guesswork I have not been tipped off about anything - although if anyone would like to it can be discreetly mentioned here!!

Community arts groups fear noise complaints from city centre hotel

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wales ... p_AppShare

Concerns from the nearby studio of noise complaints. I can't see it being a problem myself. I mean, the hotel will be from the 10th floor upwards, and I've walked past this place hundreds of times and never heard a thing.

I'm almost forced to use language that I discourage on this forum and have no wish to ban myself!!! anyway what a load of absolute BO****KS. The windows from 10 floors up will all be sealed and double/triple glazed - they could make as much racket as they like and I doubt if you'd be able to hear a thing! Still this is probably just an 'interesting' :?: investigative story blown up out of proportion by media wales I very much doubt it'll stop, what could be a superb development for reasons already mentioned on this thread.

Session musician and Barry Horns band member Gavin Fitzjohn said: “I’ve been using the facilities in the John Street railway arches for nearly 12 years and they’ve been a huge part of the development of my career in music.
“There’s nowhere else like it in the city centre and if its future isn’t taken into consideration by developers and the council my fear is that these spaces will be forced to close and Cardiff will loose yet another cultural asset.”

"Loose" rather than "tight" then?

HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA

Too noisy for the Hotel? There will be about 80m between the two entities!

That is NIMBYism at its finest.

The article does say that JR Smart had planned to restrict access to the studios by placing a gate at the site entrance but have subsequently removed it.

I know Gavin Fitzjohn, he’s a Cogan boy who plays in Paolo Nuttini’s band and is a massive City and Wales fan. He’s also a member of Plaid. I think that the musicians are raising legitimate concerns. All the same, there must be a dozen suitable spaces in the Dumballs Rd area for such a studio so if they are forced to move it wouldn’t be far.

It is a perennnial battle, that between artists and gentrifiers/developers, and striking a balance isn’t always easy. London is constantly under scrutiny for its failure to retain and nurture artists’ spaces and nightclubs/pubs/LGBTQ venues but once forced to move on they will inevitably sprout up somewhere cheap and less desirable....only to be moved on fifteen years later.

So passing on the train this afternoon there was clear activity on the plot. Anyone know what is happening?

I don't know anything, but was it the southernmost part of the plot (i.e. the one they have planning permission for?)

Looked to be there and the one on the diagonal, if that makes sense.

There's a notification on a lamppost by John Street informing that the layout of John Street will soon change, indicating progress is forthcoming.
