The article does say that JR Smart had planned to restrict access to the studios by placing a gate at the site entrance but have subsequently removed it.
I know Gavin Fitzjohn, he’s a Cogan boy who plays in Paolo Nuttini’s band and is a massive City and Wales fan. He’s also a member of Plaid. I think that the musicians are raising legitimate concerns. All the same, there must be a dozen suitable spaces in the Dumballs Rd area for such a studio so if they are forced to move it wouldn’t be far.
It is a perennnial battle, that between artists and gentrifiers/developers, and striking a balance isn’t always easy. London is constantly under scrutiny for its failure to retain and nurture artists’ spaces and nightclubs/pubs/LGBTQ venues but once forced to move on they will inevitably sprout up somewhere cheap and less desirable....only to be moved on fifteen years later.
