Could be an indoor place, not sure what facilities it would have other than sand but the next phase in this area needs to get started.

With a bit of luck whatever this turns out to be will bring an end to the annual "beach" attraction that Sayers amusements put on in the Oval Basin during the summer. I know that the event seems to be popular but I think it looks really downmarket and tacky.

Is it to be another pool but with a decent wave machine? that's what the other pool doesn't have. I mean if it's a beach style leisure destination then the two reasonably important features are sand and water surely? The other very unlikely possibility is to put the annual mermaid quay summer beach there - but surely not this as the attendances would be massively reduced. This is intriguing :?

That beach attraction will never leave the oval basin. It always proves to attract the crowds.

This new "beach style leisure destination" has me puzzled. Curious to say the least.

I think I'm right in saying the the Oval Basin beach isn't happening this year as the national Eisteddfod is being held in the WMC and the surrounding public spaces.

I can't imagine many people driving to the sports village for a beach attraction, seems a bit of an out of the way location. Plus it would need to be indoors.

Sounds a bit pie in the sky like the indoor ski slope, 5 star Wyndham hotel etc.

Some interesting applications to be decided at next week’s planning committee:

Dumball’s Road - 2 residential schemes that came out in the news a few months back. The 25 story tower next to the college and the 2 building scheme behind Lloyd’s (?) building. Good to see these 2 reach this stage and I like the 2 building one as not to dis-similar to brickworks

And 3 student accommodations
- Bradley Court with the designs released last summer - I honestly hate this ugly building so much
- Howard Gardens - meh design but as an Adamsdown, I’m against this one. I LOVE West Wing development. Eclipse is ok, looks unfinished. I do feel for the residents of the houses by Howard Gardens if this goes ahead. And apparently Adamsdown were promised the bowling green as open space as don’t have enough

The beach in the basin is privately funded (I believe by Sayers who now also run and fund Winter Wonderland) The Sayers are related to the Studt family, who own Demiros and several other eateries/bars in Mermaid Quay. There will be no appetite to move that elsewhere. In fact, they may see it as a kick in the teeth to try and hijack such a successful attraction which has had zero investment from the Council.

Shaam Nights to be demolished to make way for.......student flats!

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wale ... s-14390163

I ate here for the first time, on my birthday, a few weeks back. My son kindly paid - we had the big meat platter and very nice it was too. The interior is clad in hand-painted wooden panels. What a shame that such a good venue is going to bite the dust.

I was thinking about the "beach attraction", maybe its indoor/outdoor beach volley ball courts? Would add to the sports offering and being next to the white water rafting would look pretty good.
