If this development went on as planned as a hotel for example, I'd be more than happy. This is just evidence that the student accommodation bubble is bursting. Half the of the proposed developments won't make it past planning approval.

I wonder what pressure is on the development to have a clear intention - the reason I felt confident that this was definitely proceeding was because the layout of roads and walkways are affected by the site area. Surely a site can't be left dormant for many months when it changes other street matters?

I was concerned that it may be too good to be true, great height and unusual but good design too.

Maybe it'll come back as a mixed use resi and hotel, that would be better than more student flats and more suited to it's location.

Yes indeed, ironically this could be a good thing, if it comes back to suit a better purpose - we've waited 'forever' for a tower of this size in Cardiff so another year isn't the end of the world (he says trying to convince himself ;) )

Ah bollocks :(

At the end of last year when they all of a sudden got on with doing all that prep work I'd assumed that come sometime in the first quarter of this year they'd be on site, but maybe there's been quite a few signals in the student residential market since then that mean that in 2-3 years time there'd be no need for it. Being such a big building it was going to take a while to be finished, and in that time other competing schemes will have had the chance to start and finish.

I wonder if the height will be retained in any alternative plans, or maybe they'll just sell the site on to someone else?

Such a shame.

Halfnhalf’s comments are like the dish itself: half crisp and flavourful, half stodgy and grainy. He needs some spicy curry on top.

His grammar may be suspect. However, I think there is some validity to his argument. Can the demand for the the amount of student accommodation currently available, under construction or planned really be sustainable?

I agree with some of the commenters here: too many student flats! I wouldn't mind if it was changed to either a hotel or office building. This is the latest progress: Image

Love the towers going up at the back!

And from this vantage point you may also be able to see the John St tower being constructed before the view is obscured!! Well let's hope not and we hear something positive about our 132.5metre building on this plot! mind you I''d be over the moon if the John st tower does commence!
