Yes indeed - at last! can't wait to see exactly what we're getting but it really looks like we're going to get something! Looking forward to seeing activity on site now - oh and the planning app :)

If this image is from the latest plans then the 300 apartments appear to occupy at least 12 floors above the 3 levels of bus station. I think Wood street will have the tital of most radically unrecognisable street in about 3yrs time - and I for one will not pine for it's old look!!

Me neither! I do think that it's pity though that there are no nods to the area's previous incarnation as Temperance Town. The names of the buildings are a bit 'anytown' and the 'Central Square' name itself is anodyne. It's a minor quibble but I do think that where historic names exist they should be preserved or revived.

why? Surly just names from an arbitrary point in time, those streets existed for maybe 50-100 years out of 4.6 billion years of earths history....

That's true enough but there is a danger of homogeneity in any new development and small nods to the past help alleviate it.

If we followed your logic through why not demolish Cardiff Castle to free up land for housing? After all 2,000 years is nothing in terms of the story of the cosmos!

I agree. Cardiff castle would be a great location for an extra bus station to serve the north of the city. And more student flats could be built there as it is very close to the universities. Cardiff castle is a legacy of the Romans (what have they ever done for us?) and the tyrannical Norman overlords. It is a symbol of oppression that cannot be left standing. Plus it was reconfigured by a couple of opium junkies and as we all know, visiting a castle redesigned by smack heads could lead children into drug addiction.

Tear it down!

Not sure why referring to the past would "break" homogeneity in new developments... you are just changing names systems from one point in time to naming systems from another point in time. If you want names to be interesting/meaningful just choose interesting or meaningful names....

Not sure why you think your next statement about demolishing the castle is "following my logic through", but anyhow would love to see something better than the godawful victorian multimillionaires folly in the centre of Cardiff..... :D

The Architects Journal is reporting that the Foster and Partners design for Central Square has been completely scrapped.

First thing I did was check the calendar but no it's the 5th today not the 1st of April!! so this aint no joke

Wow! oh well at least now we know why we haven't seen any new plans for what they are going to build - basically coz there aren't any!! Fair play this new bus station never fails to surprise  I wonder how far away the new plans are? I'm no expert but would think it is probably useful when building a substantial structure to know what it is your actually building!! Can't wait to see 'the new plans' which presumably will bear little resemblance to the originals, so god knows what to expect? The optimist in me hopes that they look great! but the realist worries that the Foster and partners design couldn't be delivered on the budget available and therefore :o   - we'll see (maybe - one day)
