We do, in theory, have above 30 floors in the pipeline, at least based on current planning permission approvals. Of course, the Hope Street one appears to be on hold, maybe even cancelled in its current form, but hopefully we'll still see something tall and above 30 floors. Hopefully still above 40!

Then we have the Hallinans House replacement, which at its tallest is 32 floors. Now, I know they've yet start on this one, but the news we've had about tenants moving out is pretty significant, particularly considering it's Howells that are driving the project. They are moving into their new offices this summer so maybe we'll see something happen by the end of the year.

However, just look at the image posted by Cardiff from Manchester. Yes, I know it's a much bigger city in a number of ways, but they are powering on as a city aren't they? Just a casual look of tower heights on Wikipedia and you can see a whole batch above 30 floors, several above 40 and one or two moving on above 60 floors. Some perspective!

Which information? The Hallinans House bit?

So this article states that Howells themselves are one of the development companies behind the scheme

https://www.insidermedia.com/insider/wales/plans-in-for-32-storey-student-development

And this one talks about them signing up to a new office, so vacating Hallinans House. I think there might have been a walesonline article as well.

Sorry, Kyle. The bit I put in bold, about the Hope Street tower being on hold / possibly cancelled.

Not sure if any statement has been made but there is nobody on site and if this was proceeding as originally planned we would have piling completed and a tower crane in place - for those reasons alone we know that this is on hold  I get the impression that if Bridge St is well occupied then this could have a big effect on whether or not the hope st development proceeds :?: (knew it was to good to be true!! - glass needle flashbacks!!)

It would help if I read your post properly sorry!

As Paul has outlined, it's based on pure speculation from a) the lack of progress and b) some gossip on this forum where someone has talked to the developer (I think)

Bare in mind that Watkin Jones has sold on Bridge Street to a student housing management company anyway, so occupancy is irrelevant to them in a way...unless of course the same student housing organisation was lined up for Hope Street.

Maybe that's the problem actually, maybe nobody wants to take the building on to manage it, or it's the same organisation and they really are waiting on occupancy take up before committing to the Hope Street tower.

At this rate were going to end up with the Interchange, Premier Inn, Hope Street Tower and John Street tower all going up at once. Now that will be a lot of craines in the same area!

Oh how I long for some pile driving on the new interchange!! sad but true! :geek: Anyway whilst one of those big mechanical beasts hasn't turned up yet on site, their definitely seems to be more activity! Really looking forward to this getting underway! mind you if it gets constructed at the speed of HMRC then maybe it'll take shape relatively quickly - once it actually STARTS!!

WoL article confirming that the new design for the station has now been submitted as a planning application
One point made me laugh - apparently work on the bus station started in April to get it to ground floor level. Other than removing all the rubbish on site, sweet FA has happened on the site. Goodway''s comments of 'shovels in the ground in Q1' was rediculous. We'll be in Q4 soon and no sign of any work happening
