What do people make of their expansion in Cardiff. I won't give much away here but I'm a little curious having had some involvement with people applying there. What can we expect? Has WAG thrown them a nice cheque? Is the Cardiff office intended to be much more than a back office employing people a little above the minimum wage? Is that really worth a substantial grant?

I think a fair bit of this work is what might be termed back and mid office. But I don't think its minimum wage work at all. Here is how their delivery centre is described:

"In short: we provide centralised business administration service. Which means we support client-facing staff across all parts of Deloitte, providing specialist expertise in things like risk, research and compliance, among others. As an apprentice, you’ll be placed in one of these specialist teams and taught everything you need to know to do your job. From here you could move into all kinds of roles across the business."

So I think these are quite specialised roles, with a fair amount of knowledge. I don't know how it compares to client facing roles in terms of salary (probably less). But I'd still say people are on pretty decent wages. You can look it up on the website.

I should be careful what I say but I know a few people going there and they were surprised how easy it all was. Maybe the work will turn out to be very unappealing for them. I was a little aggrieved at being turned down but maybe they just nah.... over-qualified.

The area certainly has potential. The question I guess is how big a business district does Cardiff need? I did rather laugh at the description on their website of it as a 'mixed use development of European scale.' I'd love to know what on earth that means!

I'm surprised nothing has been happening to the south on what I would have thought would be excellent potential residential land. I'm not knocking the businesses there but you'd think it would be ripe.

They have planning permission for the demolition - so there's no legal reason holding them back. I've seen a few drays leaving the site this week so it appears Brains are still brewing there. I'm guessing the fit-out of the new brewery is taking a bit longer than intended.
