"Leader of Cardiff council Phil Bale said: “The new transport hub will provide a world-class gateway into the city, interlinking travel by train and bus, as well as providing pick-up and drop-off areas ensuring easy access for cyclists, taxis and pedestrians."

"Interlinking travel", is that Council speak for, "We're going to knock up an undercover walkway from the new 'smaller' bus station to Cardiff Central so your wheelie cases don't get wet, but please mind the tramps!"

I would have thought our AMs would have used the south side of the station.

Apparently design contracts have been exchanged on the BBC Wales new HQ

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/business/business-news/design-contracts-exchanged-bbc-wales-8338929

All being well construction will start next summer, with completion in 2017 and occupancy in 2018. I assume they mean it will be full occupancy by 2018 ? You'd assume there'd be a gradual move of staff ? I know they'd need time to fit out some of the technical stuff ?

The key date is Spring next year though when the BBC in London give final approval.

In relation to Central Sqaure, does that mean the very dated looking Wood Street building is going too?

Yes, I take it you are talking about St.David's House. There's no firm plans, but that office together with the empty plots behind will have new buildings there.

Marland House is also going - making way for the new bus station plus some offices above (eventually).

I think I read somewhere that the technical fit out takes about six months. I found the timetable for the BBC's new Glagow building on the web and it seems to chime with your estimates.

Building work from July 2004 to August 2006

BBC Staff move from Queen Margaret Drive: April 2007 onwards

Building operational: Summer 2007

Looks OK. We will only get epic sunset like that depicted in the pictures a year but still it will be a marked improvement on what is there.

Good to see reference on the new Wood Street for space set aside for future tram line - is this the first time a road will be identified in the modern era in Cardiff with this identified?
