I think Corona is really going to hit hard. If they don’t push on and finishes the buildings currently under construction it could be years before companies have the finances to carry on, by which time costs will have increased and it will be easier for them to pull out completely!

The 2008 was terrible for construction in Cardiff and this is going to be worse!

I fear it will be 2 years before projects that have started construction (John Street, Premier Inn and Easy Hotel) will be completed.

5 years before we will see projects that haven’t started constructions (Bradley Court and Apartments Capital Quarter)

We can kiss goodbye to plans just on paper and got no bricks laid (The interchange, the whole of the brewery redevelopment, the South Wales metro and a new arena.)

And we won’t even get to see what the artist impression of the canal quarter plans were!

Hope I’m wrong, hope it’s not all doom and gloom.

I’ve friends in a couple of organisations who have been lucky enough to see canal quarter plans and say it looks fantastic. Obviously were under NDAs so couldn’t share with mere mortals such as I, but I’m super jealous and I’ll be even more riled if we (the public) don’t get to see them!

Let that be a lesson WAG and CC, if you’d got cracking with the bus station a while ago we probably wouldn’t risk not having one at all for the next 10 years too!

Guys, construction on the Capital Quarter apartments and John Street offices were still ongoing yesterday. The Premier Inn doesn't seem to be slowing down either, as I can see it climbing every few days from my window. Can't comment on the Interchange and other schemes.

2008 was a different kind of recession. If anything, we will see a greater demand for build to rent schemes and a delay in building privately owned homes before the population regains confidence with it's finances. Perhaps schemes will now opt to build a greater percentage of social housing? It's not the end of the world!

No Sign of work on John Street this morninng, Premier Inn still continues and it sounded like work was still on going on the Westgate hotel though I was on St Mary's Street so don't know for sure.
There's still a depressing number of homeless/addicts on the streets in the city centre, guess plans to get those people into empty hotels/hostels aren't being that effective.

I noticed John street was quiet this morning.
I saw at least a dozen homeless, this the day after Cardiff council announced they had filled oyo and we're now taking over another hotel. I thinks it's close to accomodation for 200 adding the containers in.
What i have noticed is how the very wide Lloyd George avenue looks like a very farsighted piece of planning now! Pedestrians, joggers and cyclists passing each other with space to spare.

I'm hoping that as this downturn has a known cause things will spring back quickly once restrictions are lifted. I'm also hoping Pasture will open very soon after if it's as good as the original.

Hope so with Pasture! That's one of the first places I want to go once we get back to normal, providing it's finished and open!

Why are they still going on? It's not like they are essential. They're just easing the spread of the virus
