Population of greater Manchester is 2.8m while the Bristol metro area is a quarter of that at only 0.7m.

Wow! that's great news! and fair play fantastic forward thinking by our "leaders". Really looking forward to hearing more about this next week. The implications on other developments are also very significant, demolition of motorpoint and development of that area - including plans for churchill way/guildford crescent?, also speeding and re-enforcing requirements for improved travel to the bay, and how about this for a thought... council to relocate in john street phase 2? ;) we'll see, but post pandemic our city will be moving forward with ambition, let's see what happens!

Meanwhile it looks like the Bristol plans could be in doubt.

That is great news for Cardiff. Hopefully we'll have more news soon and the development will indeed act as a catalyst for wider regeneration.

It's great that the council are also looking to take ownership of the Corys building and neighbouring properties. With increasing developments along Dumballs Road and the river front, I'd love to see the bay fully regenerated and connected with the city centre. Also, if the Motorpoint Area is demolished, they'll be more scope for the so-called 'Canal Quarter'.

Rregarding Bristol's arena, I said months ago that opting for an expensive refurbishment at an out-of-town site was a mistake. Time will tell.

So Arena still moving forward - but most details still confidential.

Confirmation that Arena itself to be on Council Office site plus Travelodge - with Red Dragon site not really needed.

A couple of questions that occurred to me...
1. If the arena occupies the site of the council office car park and the Travelodge, what happens to Hemingway Road? Will it be severed, or will it pass through/beneath/around the new development?
2. Are we now lumbered with the mediocre Red Dragon Centre and the great ocean of surface-level parking next to it, or is it still the intention to modify the centre and incorporate it into the arena?
