Still sad though. The track record of large brewing companies buying into smaller ones while promising to preserve their 'heritage' and 'regionality' isn't great.
Hancock's and a few other breweries became "Welsh Brewers" after Bass Charrington bought them and for a time we had HB, Allbright and a Welsh identity of sorts.
Whitbread's buy out of Rhumney Brewery and Creswell's gave us the (disgusting) Welsh Bitter for a time, but it's long gone.
The deal is reversable but only after twenty five years. Who know what will happen by then?
It leave us with Felinfoel as the 'last man standing' of the big Welsh brewing companies. I forget the exact details, but I seem to rember that it's bombproof as it's owned by a family trust that explictly rules out it ever being sold.
