That's a great idea considering it's currently a windswept, empty space. Even taking into account event use, there must be scope to have some features in the square. I'd hope the council would get behind any good designs that come out of this.

I've always wanted a statement fountain, can always be fenced in for rugby days etc. and it definitely needs more seating.

Surely planning can only be refused via a valid point of order, otherwise it'll just be granted on appeal. "I don't like the look of it" isn't enough.

Oh sure, I was just making the point that the committee meeting could be quite a divided one. Councillors can and do sometimes ignore officer's advice and have, on occasion, been vindicated by the courts.

Recent cases involving housing developments in Wrexham are a case in point where elected members pointed out that there was little purpose in having a planning committee at all, if it existed only to rubber-stamp officers reccomendations.
