Arena should open in Q1 2028 - which should be at least 12 months ahead of Bristol. That lead time will be important in getting Cardiff Arena established.
Build it and they will come.
Get it wrong and they will fall off.

It will be good for Cardiff to get a footing on the tour circuit ahead of Bristol, but I imagine that they can happily co-exist as they both have large catchment areas. I also think ours is far better located being city centre adjacent, and having much better transport connections.

Do Live Nation typically just book their acts into their venues? You'd think Cardiff is better linked corporately as well considering Bristol's is owned by YTL

It's more that Live Nation will block book any artists across their network of venues, meaning that Cardiff would be prioritised over Bristol. I suspect Bristol will suffer as a result because only acts guaranteed to sell out both Cardiff and Bristol would book Bristol. Bristol would be an overflow back up as it were.

That seems to make sense. It's an interesting counter-factual to wonder whether LN might have opted for Bristol had Marvin Rees not shot his city in the foot by abandoning the centrally located 'Arena Island' site for a poorly connected former aircraft hanger in Filton.

It's kind of amusing that Bristol is the only city to have abandoned having a directly-elected mayor largely because of Rees's disasterous record.

I'm also unsure how the new Brabazon railway station is going to ferry tens of thousands of people on max. 3 car trains. The initial service will also be hourly!

.

Cardiff Arena will have 6 trains per hour to Queen Street (and beyond) plus 6 trains per hour to Central. Eventually it will also have trains to the east.

Bristol Arena is in the wrong place.
Build it and they will come.
