I presume this will be the route the buses take??
Red in, Green out.

If so, the pavement along Great Western Lane is very narrow and there are wheelie bins and beggars usually blocking it.

Am I missing something?

Had a look at the DAS. Still not a fan of the scheme really. Some of the design looks like they are trying to go for something of a retro modernism look for the resi and office components.

Take a look at the last two pages of: http://planning.cardiff.gov.uk/online-a ... 853113.pdf.

I'm not a fan of the new look Marland Street. OK, better than what was there until very recently. But in my view its not great. To me theres something "Milton Keynes" about the style. Neither hte BBC building nor the Office building have quite the right proportions or shapes.

And I don't really like the idea of this slab of the Interchange acting like a plinth for the office and resi elements above. Again I think it looks "retro" but not in an especially good way.

And I really dont like the open air car park. Around half the flats, and office workers at the BBC and the Interchange office element will have a view of an open air car park. Its just not good enough for a city centre scheme thats meant to be pushing the envelope. Cover it up, put a proper roof garden on it (not the green hedge trim).

Agree that the changes made to the resi element are a backward step. What is it with making things random? Architecture, especially resi architecture, works better with either symmetry or a properly "interesting" shape. Some halfway house of taking a symmetric regular shape and sticking some cheap random bits on it does not work!

Why would you assume that? Surely most buses will exit onto Wood Street?

I suspect both would happen - not sure how they are planning to manage traffic on match days but having exits to the north and south surely gives them the option to utilise the bus station on Match days (send buses out through the north exit and to the North & east of the city via Customhouse Street or the South and West of the City via Callaghan Square?)

Or maybe they're going to realign the roads in that area and utilise the bridge underpass next to Sleeperz?

Just a thought...

Most importantly I think that the Great Western Lane road should be revamped so it gets more space in the bus station

From the Cardiff Bus website, the company has approximately 60 routes. Now some bypass the centre and some run infrequently, if we assume that half of the routes fall into these categories, that leaves 30 what could be called main line routes. That's around double the proposed capacity of the new bus station, in addition, there are other non Cardiff Bus routes such as National Express, Stagecoach and NAT Very interesting.

30 main line routes, 14 stands, 2 minutes turnaround or 30x14 per hour = 420 buses.

doesn't seem a stretch to me, even allowing for other services
