Curious what they might be up to considering the HMRC plans that have been in the news.

Maybe they've got a plan B for the site or are going ahead regardless, which doesn't quite add up I know.

Orange jackets (as opposed to yellow ones) are compulsory for those working on or adjacent to railway lines. I know some people where them on different sites (saves having to have 2 different colours) but it might mean that Network Rail are taking an interest, which is a good sign!

Lots of activity on the site earlier today. Maybe just groundwork but maybe a hint of something?

I'm really curious why they would be doing this given the apparent choice of HMRC to locate at Central Square.

maybe that we were all wrong that HMRC were going there and it was always someone else.

Carillion have set up camp on the south of the site - however, alas nothing to do with the proposed development :| They are to be lowering the railway near by in preparation for electrification. It's hard to imagine any construction there until they've done the required track modifications. Anyone know any different?

That explains everything then. With the HMRC and government hub news we've heard it didn't make any sense for construction work for any building to be happening. JR Smart just wouldn't be building a 300,000 square foot building for anyone else sadly, although wouldn't it be great if a handful of organisations did show enough interest for them to do so?

It'll be interesting to see what they do with this site now, with the plans they already have for almost 200,000 square foot of space at nearby Numbers 3 and 4 at Capital Quarter it could be some time until we see any plans.

Yes it's looking less likely that the existing approved development will proceed - although what do we know eh! So what next for this superbly located site? well JR Smart originally planned a fairly substantial Hotel for capital quarter, now if all the plans for Central Square - Brains Brewery - Dumballs Road - Cardiff RFC come to fruition, or are likely to (for those rather more in the know than us 'observers' ) then maybe they will think again about constructing a Hotel there? So I think they should give Christopher a bell and build the original concept of Bayscape Tower there!! :)

ps. If you're reading Christopher then nothing against existing modifications of Bayscape plans, which are completely understandable - rather flattery of that original tower, with observation floors!!

Some big banners have gone up on the fencing around this site proclaiming 'Capital Quarter - John Street', so all may not be completely dormant.

I'm not so sure.

They've rebranded the whole Capital Quarter site as part of starting number 4 so maybe just a marketing thing? I noticed a Knight Frank sign up on the John Street plot as well.

Edit: At the Capital Quarter main site they've put up an image showing each of buildings, including how number 3 and 4 will look but then empty plots for number 5 and John Street. I'll have a good look when I'm back in the office.
