Uniqlo is not upmarket and does not sell anything particularly special, which would probably be why they had an enormous scale back in the UK in 2003, and now only one store exists outside London. It fits in with the H&M's and Next's of this world, and would probably do incredibly well in Cardiff, but the Japanese owners obviously have little faith in the UK.

Uniqlo closed my local branch a few years back too. They've closed a few in London but the big ones are always very busy.

I didn't think Thomas Pink was seen as that upmarket. Just a step above TM Lewin, surely?

To be fair I think in context the discussion it was about stores more upmarket than the usual Primark, Topshop, TK Maxx etc.

I know that the "Morgan Quarter" is off topic but given the way that this thread has diverged from SD2 I thought that it was worth mentioning that there are around twenty fashion (clothing and footwear) retailers, many of them independent, in the two arcades. A lot of them are high-end and sell designer gear. 31 The Store is worth a mention, great clothes and knowledgeable staff.

Noticed today that the Love Coffee unit next to M&S is closed, they used to use the centre bit of the mall as well for a large seating area.

Obviously people didn't Love their coffee enough.

I do actually like Thomas Pink (the 'shirt bar' in the flagship is great) but I still see it as more of a department store concession than anything else.

I was at the big Lions send-off banquet the night before they flew out in 2013. At every place setting there was a commemorative mini ball from Rhino, a magazine, some other odds and sods and a £100 gift card for Thomas Pink. On my table of eight was an Irish player and sat next to me was a very high-profile Wales player. He was so excited about the gift card. I thought, you're playing for the Lions and I'm sure Thomas Pink would give you what you want as a team partner, what's the big deal?!
