Genuinely saw sections of this crane on the back of a flatbed heading into Cardiff this morning and wondered where it was headed - question answered!

Why is the core of No 2 still rising? I'm concerned this ot going to totally overshadow any open space around here - well, it will - but also be quite overbearing on the BBC building, which I understood to be the main focal point of the square...

The BBC building always was going to be the shortest out of all the buildings at Central Square.

It still is the main building though regardless. It's the first thing anyone will be drawn to when they step out of the station.

But surely, the imperialist BRITISH broadcasting corporation, won't allow itself to be outshone by some upstart Welsh law firm's HQ? I wouldn't be surprised if they put a large antenna on top just so they could be the tallest building on the square, towering over the dignity of Wales, and proclaiming the heart of Wales' capital as a mere provincial outpost of the British Empire?

Haha, ironic that BRITISH Telecom own the tallest building in Cardiff, with a big aerial on top. Arriving at Cardiff Central people will notice the BT and BBC buildings. And the BRITISH rail logo, obviously.

I know that economists aren't very good at noticing very obvious patterns but even you can recognise this theme, surely.

Or are you just spouting your usual Great British Bollocks?

On a more serious note, I think we in Cardiff should be both proud and grateful of the BBC. Three of their most popular television shows are produced here (and they don't have to be!). Doctor Who and Sherlock in particular are putting Cardiff on the global map, and yet people complain that they will have to see their new building as they leave the station. People can't have it both ways. You can't celebrate the success of these television shows without also celebrating the BBC's investment in the area, which has also been the catalyst for other respected production companies such as Pinewood moving into the city.

I don't celebrate the success of either of these shows. As a fan of Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes I think that the Cardiff-made versions are pretty rubbish. And I've never liked Casualty. To be honest I'm past getting angry about the BBC, Cardiff's developments, Welsh subjugation or English imperialism. I'm looking forward to Central Square and the rest being finished.
